Rope and Sling Specialists Ltd. (RSS)-backed middleweight boxer Luke Turner will make his professional debut on Friday 3 October at BOXPARK, Liverpool.
Warrington prospect Turner has been training with 10oz Cleto Reyes gloves, donated by the RSS depot in his hometown, where father, Glynn, is workshop engineer.
Turner, 20, recently signed with world-famous promoter Frank Warren, and will represent the equally renowned Queensberry stable on the undercard of the eagerly awaited rematch between Kurt Wiggins and Kerim Agius, who fought out a closely contested draw last summer.
Turner crosses over to the professional ranks following a highly successful amateur career, which spanned over 50 bouts, and included three national titles — the most recent of which was last year. The 5’10”-tall pugilist will be 72.5kg (160 lbs.) when he steps between the ropes in four weeks on the stacked Blockone Sports show, on the banks of the River Mersey.
“The new gloves feel great,” said Turner, as preparations intensify ahead of the four-round fight. “Training is going well and, with a date in the diary to work towards, we’re sharpening my skills all the time with a clear goal to make the biggest possible impact on my pro debut.
“Ticket sales are going great too — but I’m still welcoming messages with more interest. RSS have been a massive help, providing me with new gloves. I’m interested in partnering with more local firms looking to raise their profile by supporting my pro journey.”
RSS offers a comprehensive portfolio of lifting and rigging products, in addition to live365 digitalisation and compliance technology. It supplies blocks, shackles, hooks, slings, harnesses, and other rigging gear — all covered by periodic Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) inspections — to some of the UK’s most notable joint ventures, consortiums, large-scale infrastructure projects, and blue chip firms.
